About

Toni Corbett is an Australian artist from Newcastle, NSW, whose connection to the water and coastal environment continues to shape her artistic practice. With an early career in visual culture, she developed a strong understanding of composition and colour that informs her current work.

Now based between Merewether and her studio in Dungog, Toni works primarily in oil. Her practice has evolved from an initial emphasis on colour to a deeper exploration of form. Influenced by colourist painters like Suzanne Valadon and Alice Neel, she combines vibrant palettes with thoughtful composition to create work that conveys emotion and energy, capturing the movement and essence of coastal living.

Toni’s recent achievements include being named a semifinalist in the 2024 Newcastle Club Foundation Art Prize and having her work hung in the Viola Bromley Art Prize in Muswellbrook.
